About Starry's Journey

This isn't just another grief book. It's a story written from lived experience—by a mother who searched desperately for resources to help her daughter understand why daddy wasn't coming home.

When Hope was only nine months old, we lost Todd, her dad and an Air Force veteran, to suicide related to service trauma. In the years that followed, I discovered a painful gap: very few resources exist for children processing loss connected to military or first responder service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I qualify for the 529 families? +

If you've lost a loved one who served in the U.S. military (any branch, any status) or as a first responder (police, fire, EMS, etc.), you qualify. This includes losses from combat, training, accidents, illness, PTSD, suicide, or any service-related cause.

Is there really no cost? +

Absolutely none. The book, plush companion, shipping, and all resources are 100% free to families. Grief should never come with a price tag. We're funded entirely by donors who want to honor your loved one's service.

When will I receive the resources? +

Distribution begins after our Kickstarter campaign concludes. This allows us to print enough books and create enough plush companions for all 529 families. You'll receive email updates and tracking information when your package ships.

What if my loss was from suicide or PTSD? +

You absolutely belong here. Our founder lost her husband to suicide related to service trauma. We don't shy away from hard truths—we believe talking about PTSD, mental health, and suicide is essential to healing and preventing future loss.

Can extended family members sign up? +

Yes. Whether you're a widow/widower, parent, sibling, child, grandparent, or any family member affected by the loss—you're welcome. One family = one package, but we want to reach whoever needs support.
