From Heartbreak to Hope

On May 29, 2019, our lives changed forever. My daughter, Hope, was only nine months old when we lost her dad, Todd, to suicide.

He was a husband, a father, and a man carrying invisible wounds from his service-the kind of wounds so many veterans and first responders live with every day.

That night broke us wide open, leaving me a widow and Hope without her daddy, forced to navigate a world that didn’t know how to hold our grief.

In the months and years that followed, I searched for ways to explain the unexplainable to a child. I quickly discovered there were very few resources that spoke to children and families about loss caused by service-related trauma and depression. Families like ours are left in silence, often misunderstood or overlooked, while the pain continues in the shadows.

That is why, on May 29, 2025- six years to the day we lost Todd-I founded

Starry is Hope

This nonprofit is both a promise and a lifeline: a promise to honor Todd’s memory and all those like him, and a lifeline for families who need a place to belong when the world doesn’t understand.
